On February 2, 2026, the Lagos State University of Science and Technology witnessed a celebration of uncommon elegance, dignity, and purpose. The glamour that characterized the Fourth Founders’ Day was not merely ornamental; it reflected the maturity, confidence, and steady progress of an institution firmly rooted in vision and guided by purposeful leadership.

I celebrated on that day with the Governing Council, the Vice Chancellor, the Executive Management, staff, students, union leaders, and our esteemed alumni, with a deep sense of gratitude to God, and appreciation for the remarkable journey that had continued to shape this institution and our dear Lagos State by providence and deliberate planning.

That moment invited deep reflection, not only on where the University had come from, but on what it was steadily becoming. The Lagos State University of Science and Technology stood firmly rooted in a proud heritage spanning over four decades of polytechnic excellence. Long before its transition to university status, the institution had already been shaping minds and transforming lives through practical knowledge, discipline, and a strong work ethic. Its classrooms, workshops, and laboratories had produced generations of graduates who powered industries, built enterprises, and contributed meaningfully to the social and economic growth of Lagos State and Nigeria.

This legacy was not distant history; it remained the living foundation upon which LASUSTECH continued to build its present achievements and future ambitions.

The evolution into a University of Science and Technology was not a departure from the past, but a natural progression. It expanded the institution’s vision while preserving its values. Four years on, LASUSTECH reflected what was possible when heritage was respected and the future intentionally pursued. It had emerged as a place where learning was relevant, innovation encouraged, and excellence consistently demanded.

The achievements celebrated on February 2, 2026, were made possible by the quality of leadership steering the University. The Governing Council and Management demonstrated clarity of purpose, institutional discipline, and a firm commitment to growth. Their leadership translated policy into progress and vision into measurable outcomes, strengthening academic standards, infrastructure, and institutional reputation.

Above all, these milestones were deeply anchored in the visionary leadership of the Visitor, His Excellency Mr. Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. His belief in education as a strategic driver of development provided the enabling environment for transformation. His support for institutional expansion, innovation, and global relevance gave LASUSTECH both direction and confidence to grow sustainably.

Today, as the University proudly commissioned the West Gate, history spoke again. The commissioning stood as a continuation of the story celebrated on February 2, 2026. It symbolized access, expansion, and readiness for greater responsibility.

The West Gate was more than an infrastructure project; it was a statement of growth, openness, and forward movement, evidence that the celebration had translated into sustained development.

Having served in different capacities, it was evident that the enduring strength of this institution had always been its people; students eager to learn, staff committed to excellence, alumni carrying its values into the wider world, and partners who believed in its mission.

This culture of resilience, innovation, and hard work mirrored the spirit of Lagos itself: energetic, enterprising, and unafraid of progress.

As LASUSTECH marked its Fourth Founders’ Day and commissioned another symbol of growth, it did not merely celebrate years; it reaffirmed purpose. It honoured its past, celebrated its present, and positioned itself confidently for a future defined by relevance, innovation, and global impact.

I remained grateful for the privilege of service, thankful for the collective effort that had brought the University this far, and confident that the journey of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology was only just beginning.
